It's not all about campfires -- Girl Scouts visit College
Nov 16, 2006 - A group of 26 girl scouts from throughout metro Detroit recently visited the college to learn some exciting aspects of engineering.Alumnae Nancy Philippart, IE'80, Girl Scout Mom and president of the Board of Directors of the Girl Scouts of Metro Detroit, came with the girls. She is also a member of the Board of Visitors and the Engineering Hall of Fame. Darin Ellis, associate professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering, led the girls through a demonstration of science and engineering ergonomics using the example of the design of the control panel manipulating the camera-guided robotic arm on the International Space Station. Ellis, a human factors engineering expert, collaborated with Abhilash Pandya, assistant professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who developed vision software for the for the control system.
