Biological and Neurological Implants
Body-sound, body-safe microsystems bring new possibilities to medical care
Comprised of medical professionals, scientists and engineers, broadly multidisciplinary SSIM teams are propelling the medical field into a MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) revolution. They are developing advanced technologies and, in some cases, working prototypes that go far beyond the scope of those in use today. Their many projects range from smart shunts and drug-delivery systems that turn on and off based on the body's needs to retina and visual cortex implants designed to at least partially restore sight to patients who are losing theirs.
